Small-Scale In-Line Mixers
Small-Scale In-Line Mixers
Silverson’s range of small-scale In-Line mixers is specifically designed to provide high performance and versatility for a variety of mixing applications. These mixers effectively bridge the gap between laboratory and full-scale production models, offering precision mixing for mid-range batch sizes.
As one of the most versatile mixers on the market, Silverson high shear rotor/stator In-Line mixers have the ability to form stable emulsions, de-agglomerate, reduce particle and droplet sizes and blend powdered and liquid ingredients. The rotor/stator workhead is impossible to bypass, so all material is subjected to high shear as it passes through the workhead. Before now these mixers have only been available as a production-scale model or as a benchtop laboratory unit. The new mixer range, which includes “Ultra Hygienic” specification models, a unit suitable for higher viscosity mixes, and a Multi-stage In-Line mixer, complement the different types of laboratory and production models already available from Silverson, but importantly offer customers more options in terms of batch sizes and processing requirements.
Any mixer in this range can be supplied with a Vessel Package, increasing the versatility and flexibility of these small-scale mixers. The Vessel package comprises of a 50 liter vessel, vessel stand, valve and pipework. Conversion kits are also available allowing the UHS model to be upgraded to a UHS-HV and an FMX10.
Small-Scale In-Line Mixer Range:
How It Works
Our small-scale In-Line mixers provide processors with numerous advantages, including high speed, versatility, self-pumping, aeration-free operation, and guaranteed efficiency. Featuring Silverson’s precision-engineered rotor/stator workhead, these compact mixers provide the same exceptional mixing quality as larger models even for smaller batches.
The high-speed rotation of the rotor blades within the precision-machined mixing workhead exerts a powerful suction, drawing liquid and solid materials into the rotor/stator assembly.
Centrifugal force then drives the materials towards the periphery of the workhead where they are subjected to a milling action in the precision-machined clearance between the ends of the rotor blades and the inner wall of the stator.
This is followed by intense hydraulic shear as the materials are forced, at high velocity, out through the perforations in the stator, then through the machine outlet and along the pipework. At the same time, fresh materials are continually drawn into the workhead, maintaining the mixing and pumping cycle.

Workheads
A variety of workheads and screens are available for Silverson’s small-scale In-Line mixers. These interchangeable workheads provide exceptional versatility, allowing each mixer to handle a wide range of tasks, such as emulsifying, homogenizing, disintegrating, dissolving, dispersing, blending, reducing particle size, and de-agglomerating. Changing from one head or screen to another is quick and simple, ensuring smooth transitions between mixing operations.
